Wayne Mardle's Premier League Tips: Phil to feel the strain of a long night

Wayne Mardle takes a look at tonight's Premier League fixtures in Belfast where he is keen to oppose Phil Taylor...

"Phil has openly said that his body doesn't hold up well to the arduous task of practice, and generally being in a high-stakes darting environment like it used to. When you're mentally tired it's so difficult to concentrate, and nowadays, Phil needs to concentrate more than ever to reach the dizzy heights that were once a given."

Here are tonight's Belfast Premier League fixtures...

Dave Chisnall v Adrian Lewis
Phil Taylor v Gary Anderson
Peter Wright v James Wade
Michael van Gerwen v Raymond van Barneveld
Dave Chisnall v Phil Taylor

My evening's punting will revolve around Phil 'The Power' Taylor.

If you're a Taylor fan, I apologise, as I think The Power is in for a tough night.

Phil has mentioned on more than one occasion that playing last on an evening is draining, both mentally and physically.

But the six-time Premier league champ has to do just that, facing Dave Chisnall in the last game of the night. Worse still he has to warm up with a game against Gary Anderson.

Gary's record against Taylor isn't great, but it'd be fair to say that Phil's mean game isn't as good as it was.
Gary is a better darts player than Phil Taylor right now.

I've said time and time again, The Power can still beat anyone on his day, but his days of outstanding play are just fewer.

Chisnall has only beaten Phil once in six Premier League meetings, in my opinion he won't get a better time to beat the sport's best again.

Dave's confidence and standard have risen in the last few weeks. After a torrid start to the campaign, he's now found his form.

Phil has openly said that his body doesn't hold up well to the arduous task of practice, and generally being in a high-stakes darting environment like it used to.

When you're mentally tired it's so difficult to concentrate, and nowadays, Phil needs to concentrate more than ever to reach the dizzy heights that were once a given.

The average set for Taylor at the start of the Premier League season was 101.5, it's now as low as 97.5. This suggests a massive decline in recent times.

His stats show his scoring and consistency are the problem. Phil is hitting just over 40 percent on his doubles, so no problem there.

But worryingly for Phil are his stats when playing late in the night. He has played fourth twice, and last once. On those occasions he drew with Kim Huybrechts, and lost to James Wade and MVG.

Recommended Bets
Gary Anderson to beat Phil Taylor @ 5/6
Dave Chisnall to beat Phil Taylor @ 21/10

The double pays just over 9/2.
