PDC World Darts Championship Tips: Back 180s to flow in Humphries match

Luke Humphries
Can Luke Humphries begin another World Championship run when he takes on Devon Petersen?

Luke Humphries reached the quarter-finals last year and it should be an entertaining game when he faces Devon Petersen on Friday, says Dan Fitch as he previews three matches.

"In the Players Championship last month, both players were impressive in defeat, with Humphries scoring more 180s than Van Gerwen in a 6-3 defeat and Petersen doing likewise against world number 11 Ian White."

Klaas will tell in opening match

Jelle Klaasen 1.384/11 v Kevin Burness 3.55/2

Jelle Klaasen and Keven Burness start off the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship with an early match and the winner will receive the dubious honour of facing Michael van Gerwen later in the evening in the first of the second round matches.

It's Klaasen who has the pedigree having won the BDO world title in 2006 and reached the semi-final of the PDC World Championship in 2016, but he's in poor form, losing his last three matches at events. He should though have the class and experience to deal with Burness, who has achieved little this year since reaching the last-64 when he was last at the Ally Pally.

Klaasen has won the two meetings between the players, with the last finishing 6-0. Back Klaasen -1.5 in the handicap market at 1.834/5.

Huybrechts can score heavily

Kim Huybrechts 1.42/5 v Geert Nentjes 3.412/5

It's a Belgium v Netherlands clash as the experienced Kim Huybrechts takes on the 21-year-old rookie Geert Nentjes.

This hasn't been a vintage year for Huybrechts, but he's had enough short runs in tournaments to suggest that the odds are fair. Huybrechts reached the quarter-finals of this tournament in 2012 and made it through to the third round last year.

In his most recent tournament, Huybrechts was knocked out of the Players Championship with a close 6-5 defeat to Mensur Suljovic. It was Huybrechts finishing that let him down that day, but he recorded the most 180s in defeat. You can get odds of 2.01/1 for Huybrechts to win and get the most 180s.

Go for 180s in even contest

Luke Humphries 1.664/6 v Devon Petersen 2.447/5

Both Luke Humphries and Devon Petersen impressed at the World Championship last year, but this time one of them is going to be dumped out in the first round.

Petersen reached the last-16, while Humphries went one better as he lost to the eventual beaten finalist Michael Smith in the quarter-finals. With the 24-year-old Humphries having won the 2019 PDC World Youth Championship and a number of Development Tour titles in recent years, it's 'Cool Hand Luke' who's the favourite, but the odds may be a little skewed. Petersen won the only previous match between these players earlier this year, triumphing 6-4 in a qualifier for the Austrian Open.

In the Players Championship last month, both players were impressive in defeat, with Humphries scoring more 180s than Van Gerwen in a 6-3 defeat and Petersen doing likewise against world number 11 Ian White. Back over 8.5 180s to be scored at 1.9310/11.
