PDC World Darts Championship Tips: Can Justica put Bunting out?

Stephen Bunting.
Stephen Bunting meets Jose Justica in the second round of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Jose Justica overcame Stephen Bunting in a thriller when the two last met and Dan Fitch is expecting another competitive match.

"Also of interest to us is a last 128 match in October, at a Players Championship event in Ireland. Bunting met Justica in that match and lost 5-6."

Ward value after fine debut year

Harry Ward 2.26/5 v Madars Razma 1.768/11

There have been some fine performances from young players so far at this World Championship and we might see another one when Harry Ward takes on Madars Razma.

The 22-year old Ward only joined the PDC tour in January and has already won his first title this year. Ward claimed the Players Championship in Barnsley in May, beating Max Hopp 8-7 in the final. He's now ranked 77th in the world.

That ranking puts Ward ahead of the 31-year old Razma, who is 90th. The Latvian has had an unspectacular year on the tour, with an appearance in the last-32 of the UK Open the highlight.

Razma may be older, but he doesn't have that much more experience than Ward, having only joined the tour himself in 2017. It's hard to see why Ward is the outsider and the odds of 2.26/5 for him to win could prove to be generous.

Justica looks for second scalp

Jose Justica has already pulled off a minor shock in this tournament and he will be hoping to create a bigger surprise when he meets Stephen Bunting.

The Spaniard was the outsider against Arron Monk in the first round, only to run out as an easy 3-0 winner. It was a result that this column predicted, but Bunting is likelier to present a much sterner test.

It's been a solid year for the former BDO World Champion, with Bunting reaching the quarter-finals of the Masters, World Matchplay and Players Championship. Yet also of interest to us is a last 128 match in October, at a Players Championship event in Ireland. Bunting met Justica in that match and lost 5-6.

There could be value in backing Justica then and at the very least, this could have the potential to be another competitive match. Over 16.5 legs is priced at 1.834/5.

Clemens can repeat recent form

Gabriel Clemens 1.364/11 v Benito van de Pas 3.613/5

It's a Germany against Netherlands clash later on in the evening, as Gabriel Clemens faces Benito van de Pas.

Clemens has made some good progress on his second year on the PDC tour. He reached the final of his home tournament the German Masters, losing 8-6 to Peter Wright. Clemens rounded off the year with back-to-back last-16 appearances, in first the Grand Slam of Darts - where he won his group - and then the Players Championship Finals. Clemens played particularly well at the Grand Slam of Darts, impressing with some heavy scoring and clinical finishing.

The 26-year old Van de Pas enjoyed a run to the last-16 of the World Championship last year. Since then he's disappointed, failing to qualify for big events and not making much of an impression at on the regular small tournaments on the tour.

Clemens is a deserved favourite then. If he can repeat the form that he showed at the Grand Slam of Darts, then he should win the match, record the most 180s and the highest checkout at 2.8815/8.
