Grand Slam of Darts Tips: Artist paints a picture of value

Kevin Painter can get us off to a winning start with vicory over Dean Winstanley.

Jaymes Monte kicks off his Grand Slam of Darts betting with a bet where he believes the odds are all wrong...

"Painter remains an opponent that few players enjoy playing."

It's Grand Slam time and I'm kicking off nine days of darts punting with a bet on the first match of the week. Not because I'm just itching to have a bet on the arrers - although that is true - but because I believe bookmakers and punters alike have got this one all wrong.

Kevin Painter hasn't had the most spectacular of 11 months since winning the Players Championship Finals in December of last year, but he does still command a top 16 spot and remains an opponent that few players enjoy playing.

His opponent this Saturday night is PDC newcomer Dean Winstanley. At the 2011 staging of this event Winstanley represented the BDO and qualifies for this year's Grand Slam thanks only to his success at Lakeside a couple of years back. Having collected £25,800 this season so far, Winstanley will be content with his debut season in the PDC, but he still has a long way to go.

Ability wise these two are fairly evenly matched in my book. But the experience of playing on the big stage and the little nuances that The Artist has up his sleeve when it comes to gamesmanship mean that it is he who I believe should be clear favourite in the betting.

As it is we can get a shade of odds-against about a Painter victory, with Winstanley made the slight favourite. So lets take the 2.0621/20 for our first bet of the week.
