Wayne Mardle's Grand Slam of Darts Tips: Wade and Machin will not impress

James Wade looks out of sorts

The Grand Slam of Darts rumbles on and Wayne Mardle makes picks from three of today's match-ups...

"For me, this is a must bet..."

Recommended Bet
Under the 180s @ 5/4 in Wade v Machin

James Wilson v Mark McGeeney

I have to say, I was surprised how poorly Mark played against Mensur Suljovic. He just didn't settle at all. At times he had the perfect marker but just couldn't make use of it, something he would normally do. He seemed to be lacking timing and rhythm for most of the match. If there's a repeat of that performance he will not win.

James played well in defeat to Michael Smith. His opponent got the better start and just seemed to be the one with the extra gear when needed. That said, Wilson gave a good account of himself and will feel this match against McGeeney is so winnable.

At 4/6 I think the price is decent too.

Recommended Bet
Wilson to beat McGeeney @ 4/6

Joe Murnan v Ross Montgomery

Ross Montgomery played well against MVG yesterday evening. If it wasn't for a few missed doubles the score would have been completely different. I know...IF.

Ross played well under pressure, he was under it from the get go but never really buckled, Michael was just too good. Montgomery lost nothing in defeat.

But Joe looked out of his depth against Rob Cross. Yes Cross played brilliantly, but Murnan offered no resistance.

I can't fathom why Joe Murnan is favourite for this match so the 11/10 on Ross will do for me.

Recommended Bet
Montgomery to beat Murnan @ 11/10

James Wade v Peter Machin

ZERO maximums has to be the bet. Neither hit one in their last game.

The way James is throwing as present is just odd, his hand position is way too high, the release point has to be so late and on a downward curve it just cannot work. He threw so many high and low darts in the 5-1 loss against Robbie Green. To group the darts is a real chore.

Meanwhile, Machin's darts are so wide it's actually difficult to get three of them in the same bed.

Going under the 180s looks rock-solid. I'm convinced there can't be any other outcome. For me, this is a must bet.
