Week 10 of the Premier League sees the big show in Liverpool and Wayne Mardle has a pair of punts for tonight's action...
"Whitlock has found another gear this year. He's at home on that stage and will see this game as a must-win if he's to make a run for the playoffs."
Barney is playing better than results suggest
I know the scoreline looked a little lopsided last week, but the 7-2 defeat Raymond tasted at the hands of his friend and fellow countrymen Michael Van Gerwen, wasn't as bad as it seemed. Raymond had five darts at a double to take the 3-2 lead, then missed a chance to break back in the very next leg. RVB played well, but as we know, you need to play better than well to beat Michael.
Michael Smith's growth in the game should be applauded. He's now a confident, and very competitive professional. He's told us all we've not seen the best of him, and I believe him.
On points won and games won and lost, Smith has the edge, but on performances I personally think Raymond is playing a little better than Smith.
Raymond will need to improve his finishing stats. If he can improve to his mean from over the years he'll do just fine. At present Barney's finishing percentage is 36, four per cent below Smith. If he can improve that stat I can't see why he won't win this match.
Raymond has hit marginally more maximums. But here's an interesting fact, Michael has only hit TWO maximums in his last 26 legs, while Barney has hit NINE in the last 28 legs.
Raymond Van Barneveld to win and hit the most maximums @ 5/2
The Price is right on a Whitlock win
I don't like kicking a man when he's down, but we all know Gerwyn Price can't wait to get back to some normality and he must be opposed here.
This whole Premier League experience has just been a little too much for the Welshman. Gerwyn got off to a poor start and hadn't been able to stop the bad feeling. He'll be back, I hope. He has character and the ability to compete at the level needed, he just needs to start believing again. Price is without a win and will be heading home after Liverpool knowing he'll no longer be participating in this year's Premier League.
Simon Whitlock is playing well this time around. A few years ago he finished bottom but has bounced back to some tune. Kudos to him!
As a match up goes between Simon and Gerwyn, it's hard to find a way for Price to win. Gerwyn's finishing, scoring and overall performances of late have been inconsistent to say the least, the exact opposite of Simon.
The Aussie has found another gear this year. He's at home on that stage and will see this game as a must-win if he's to make a run for the playoffs.
I'm not a believer in the theory that the pressure is off Gerwyn as he knows he's been eliminated and can relax. He's without a win and has performed poorly, that's pressure enough.
At 8/11, Simon is a decent price in my opinion.
Back Whitlock @ 8/11
