BDO World Championship Tips: Belgian to exploit old Dutch wounds

Last year's whitewash will still be fresh in Van Eijden's mind and De Vos can take advantage of that.

Jaymes Monte picks out his best bets from day three of the BDO World Championships from Lakeside...

"Van Eijden didn’t even win a leg in a 3-0 defeat here last year"

Back Geert de Vos to beat Remco van Eijden @ 1.84/5

Belgian Geert de Vos is looking to reach his fourth consecutive BDO World Championship second round in just his fourth year at Lakeside when he comes up against Dutchman Remco van Eijden this Monday evening.

In three previous visits to Frimley Green De Vos has progressed to the last 16, and then no further. But he arrives here this year in good nick and will be quietly confident of reaching at least that stage once again following a recent run to the semi-finals of the Zuiderduin Masters.

At the Dutch tournament he beat today's opponent 5-3 to top their group, after both had comfortably beaten Jeffrey de Graaf, and then went on to beat Rick Hofstra 3-0 in the quarters before being edged out by Gary Robson in a 3-2 semi-final defeat.

Van Eijden, for his part, will be making his second appearance at Lakeside after returning from a five-year hiatus for the 2014 championships. The 37-year-old has only ever won one match here - and didn't even win a leg in a 3-0 defeat last year - and will probably be best remembered for his short flirtation with the PDC where, in 2009, he narrowly defeated Russian ladies champion Anastasia Dobromyslova in the preliminary round at Alexandra Palace.

Although Van Eijden does have a couple of minor titles to his name from the past calendar year, it's the more experienced De Vos, who has done more in the bigger events throughout his career, that offers the value at odds of 1.84/5.
