Martin Adams came within millimetres of only the second ever nine-darter on the Lakeside stage and the first on the BBC in over 25 years of BDO darts. Perfect legs have become commonplace in the PDC over the past decade, but there remains something extra special and prestigious about the prospect of seeing one at Frimley Green.

Wolfie was required to up his game considerably from what he had produced earlier in the week as an in-form Glen Durrant threw everything that he had, including a 99.87 three-dart average, at Mr BDO. Adams produced his best figures of the tournament and finished the match with an impressive 97.92 average himself, after coming back from 5-4 down to win a deciding set 5-3.

Earlier in the day Scott Mitchell continued his brilliant run at this year's Lakeside World Championship with a systematic dismantling of surprise package Jeff Smith. Scotty Dog edged a tight opening set 3-2, but then never looked back as he went on to win the match by an emphatic 6-0 scoreline with a comfortable 93.27 average, while rarely getting out of second gear. It seemed as though there was still plenty more left in the 44-year-old's locker.

And so we have our final. A seasoned veteran who's done it all multiple times previously on this stage, up against a man who prior to this year had never gone past the second round at Lakeside.

We should anticipate another thrilling encounter from a tournament that has delivered plenty of sporting drama over the past seven days, and I'm sure we will se ebbs and flows throughout the final in what could be an In-Play trader's dream. However, my money is going on the man playing his first ever Lakeside final at odds of 2.3411/8.

Mitchell has been the more consistent of the two players throughout this week, and showed no signs of big-stage nerves in the semi-final thumping of Jeff Smith. While it shouldn't be underestimated just quite how much last night's epic might have taken out of Adams.
