2024 Premier League Darts Night 8 Dublin Tips: Cool Hand to consolidate position at the top

Luke Humphries - Darts
Luke Humphries will be looking to move clear of the chasing pack with a third successive nightly win in Dublin

Dublin is the darting destination this Thursday night as Luke Humphries goes in search of a third successive nightly win in the Premier League, the table topper is 6/42.50 to do so...

  • Humphries is now the favourite to finish top of the league phase at 10/111.91

  • Humphries will be confident that he can add to his tally in Dublin

  • Littler and Smith to score heavily when they meet for the fourth time in this campaign

Last week I picked out Cool Hand as terrific value to be sat top of the table come the end of the league phase, his odds to do so have been slashed to 10/111.91 following his second successive weekly triumph in Nottingham.

Despite Michael van Gerwen producing the second highest losing average in Premier League history last week, I'm backing Humphries to consolidate his place at the top due to his superior ability. His ability to perform at such a high level on a consistent basis is why he is top at the moment.

Consistent Cool Hand to compile Snakebite misery

The World Champion has astonishingly only averaged below a ton in three of the 15 Premier League matches he's competed in thus-far and is still the only player with a running average in excess of a ton. His performances have been extremely consistent, even in defeat, but he is now largely picking up the results his performance levels deserve again.

Speaking to the world number one last week, he said he's learnt a lot since lifting the Sid Waddell trophy and elevating himself to the summit of the rankings on January 3. He now focusses less on what others say about him and less on the fact that each detail of his game is now scrutinised to a higher degree.

Humphries was one of five Premier League participants to opt against travelling to Germany for the latest block of Players Championship events at the start of the week. This ensures he's fresh and fully focused as he looks to replicate the feat of MvG by picking up three nightly titles on the trot.

This week's quarter-final fixtures are based on the league standings at present with top set to face bottom. Therefore, our first match is a repeat of last week's semi-final where Cool Hand brushed Peter Wright aside with ease.

Snakebite did compete in Hildersheim on Monday and Tuesday and enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals in the first event before an opening round defeat with a mid 80s average in Players Championship six.

I wouldn't want to back against Humphries in the form he's in and think it's difficult to foresee anything other than a convincing win for the World Champion again when the two go head-to-head.

The man who occupies top spot in the table has also hit the most 180s so far and I'm backing him to beat Wright and hit the most 180s at 4/61.67.

Bully Boy boasts positive head-to-head record

On Thursday, Luke Littler and Michael Smith will face each other for the fourth time in under two months. Bully Boy is one of a decreasing number of players who can say they boast a positive head-to-head record against The Nuke and he's 2/13.00 to become just the second player to beat Littler at the quarter-final stage, after Gerwyn Price did so in Glasgow.

The 17-year-old sensation has already pinned three 9-darters this year and Smith casually hit one on the floor on Monday. You can back one to be hit at any point in Dublin at 10/111.91.

Between them, the two have hit 91 180s across their Premier League fixtures so far. Littler is, on average, hitting more than 3 180s per match and is 4/51.80 to hit +3.5 against the 2023 World Champion.

The World Youth Champion was spellbinding against van Gerwen last week, recording the highest average so far in this year's event en route to victory. I'm expecting this contest to deliver in terms of quality and like the look of 7+ 180s & 2+ 100+ Checkouts at 10/34.33.
