2024 Premier League Darts Night 7 Nottingham Tips: Price to pick up points

Gerwyn Price Darts
Gerwyn Price will be looking to distance himself from the bottom of the table on Thursday night

A few weeks ago, Michael van Gerwen looked destined to dominate and finish top of the Premier League table but that's now far from a certainty and there is value in backing someone else to achieve that feat.

  • Back Luke Humphries to finish top of the league at 11/43.75

  • The Iceman to prove too strong for Snakebite

  • Littler to condemn MvG to another early exit

Michael van Gerwen has got his hands on the Premier League trophy a record-breaking seven times and after winning a third successive night in the league stage this year, it was looking highly likely that he'd head to finals night as the player to beat once more.

He may well still do so but it no longer feels like a foregone conclusion and at 11/43.75 I certainly think there is merit in backing Luke Humphries to finish top of the table after night 16.

Cool Hand produced scintillating display after scintillating display to pick up his first nightly victory in Brighton, he's the only player in the field with a running average over a ton and is looking more and more like the Luke Humphries that dominated the sport at the back end of 2023.

Snakebite's resilience is being tested

It took Peter Wright six weeks to record his first Premier League win in 2023, unfortunately for the two-time World Champion he was unable to get off the mark at the sixth time of asking this time around, despite creating a match winning opportunity for himself last week.

The 2017 Premier League runner-up was unable to pin double 12 with two in hand against Michael Smith in Brighton and it was another first round exit for Snakebite.

At this stage of the tournament, you have to question how long can he be content with just playing better than he was a month or so ago. How long he can continue to deliver improved displays without becoming a little deflated that he's not amassed any points.

First up for him in Nottingham is the player directly above him in the league standings, Gerwyn Price.

The Iceman has been defeated at the quarter-final stage on each of the last three Premier League evenings but his opponents have all produced something spellbinding in order to get the better of the Welshman.

In Newcastle it was a 107 average from Michael van Gerwen, a near 110 from Rob Cross in Exeter before Luke Humphries averaged in excess of 105 in a 6-2 win last Thursday.

The 2021 World Champion has at times bemoaned missed doubles this year and that's the aspect of his game that deserted him in defeat to Voltage at the semi-final stage of the first Euro Tour of the year but there were plenty of encouraging signs in Belgium that all elements of Price's game are coming together more consistently again, which could spell danger for Snakebite in Nottingham.

The pair met five times in 2023 with Wright coming out on top in three of those contests. In this, their first meeting of the year, I expect Price to put in a commanding performance to pick up the points and start his ascent up the league table.

I'm backing him to complete the match treble and win, hit the most 180s and highest checkout at 5/23.50.

Littler really is loving life

Luke Littler has only failed to progress past the quarter-finals once so far in his maiden Premier League campaign and I think there's a very good chance that he makes it to the final four once more, in Nottingham.

The Nuke continued to make headlines on his Euro Tour debut at the weekend. Having already hit nine-darters in his World Series and Players Championship bows, the 17-year-old backed those achievements up by hitting a nine in the final of the Belgian Darts Open en route to winning the title.

Littler also set a new record for 180s hit in a single Euro Tour event and I expect him to maintain that heavy scoring level when he takes on MvG for the fifth time this year.

Despite Mighty Mike winning their last three matches, there's been a significant drop off in his level in his last four matches which have resulted in early exits from the UK Open, Belgian Darts Open and two weeks of the Premier League.

I'm backing Littler to come out on top and hit the most 180s in this one at 6/42.50.

Back Luke Littler to win & hit the most 180s @ 6/42.50
