English title classic
Germaine Brown defends his hard-earned English middleweight title against the challenge of Zak Chelli in the main event of Saturday's Boxxer promoted show from Wembley Arena.
This bout is scheduled for 10 rounds, and with both fighters carrying low knockout percentages, most fans expect this one to test the scoring judges.
But who will come out on top and leave with this respected title?
Browne enters unbeaten in 12
Londoner Browne will carry the English strap into the ring and aims to successfully defend his prize while climbing the British ranks, bolstering his chances of challenging for the Lonsdale belt or Commonwealth title. The 28-year-old boasts a 12-0-0 record but with just three stoppage wins included on his CV.
Germaine won the English title with a points decision over Charlie Schofield at the Manchester Arena back in February, and he did so in a convincing fashion. The scorecards that evening awarded the Kingston fighter the win by margins of six, seven and seven rounds, but there's more to come from this unbeaten prospect.
The pre-fight betting tells us to expect a classic fight for a much-loved prize, and those taking Browne to add another win to the growing pile can back him at odds of 2.111/10 on the Betfair Sportsbook. A rare KO/TKO is 7.513/2 with another points win 2.6313/8.
Chelli continues his recovery
Challenger Chelli will see this as a chance to win an English title and firmly put a difficult period of his career in the past. The fighter from Fulham enters with an 11-1-1 pro record, with six of his victories coming inside the distance, one points loss and a draw.
Kody Davies inflicted the defeat at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, in the summer of 2019, with the eventual winner climbing off the canvas to impress those charged with scoring the bout. It was a close contest, but Davies was a deserved winner before Zak drew with Jack Cullen in Brentwood in his net bout.
After failing to win in two fights, Chelli responded to claim victory in each of his next four, with his last three all coming by way of stoppage. A fifth win for Chelli is priced at 1.674/6 with a fourth KO/TKO 3.613/5. A points win will earn you a crack at 2.89/5. All prices are taken from the Sportsbook.
Winning run to continue
Chelli deserves respect for how he has fought back from those disappointments against Davies and Cullen, but he has been fighting at a lower level than he faces here, and we expect that to show.
Browne has the skills, confidence and momentum to defend his English title and move closer to a crack at the British. Take him for another points win.
