The London Olympics may have been the greatest competition in the eyes of many of our Olympians, but there's one more award they'd all love to get their hands on...
"To win SPOTY – Betfair bet: 1.664/6 Wiggins, 3.8514/5 Farah, 10.09/1 Ennis, 40.039/1 Murray, 85.084/1 Sir Chris Hoy, 420.0419/1 Ainslie"
Mo Farah, backed as high as 42.041/1 on Betfair to be the 2012 Sports Personality Of The Year, is now the 3.8514/5 second favourite to win the BBC award after a stunning win in the 5,000m last night.
Bradley Wiggins - the first British winner in the 109 year history of the Tour de France - is the odds-on 1.664/6 favourite, having been backed as short as 1.152/13 immediately after winning gold in the road time trial.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "A measure of how strong the SPOTY field is this year can be gauged from the fact that Olympic 2012 poster girl Jessica Ennis is the 10.09/1 third favourite, Andy Murray can be backed at 40.039/1 and Sir Chris Hoy is a massive 85.084/1 chance. And Ben Ainslie is available at an enormous 420.0419/1.
"In a normal year any of that quartet would probably be the odds-on favourite. But this is clearly no normal year and Wiggins and Farah dominate the Betfair market.
"However, this is probably the strongest SPOTY field of all time."
