Pieter Swanepoel

Pieter Swanepoel has been a South African career diplomat for more than 43 years, until his retirement in 2013. During this period he acted, among others, as spokesperson for both Foreign Ministers Pik Botha and Alfred Nzo, the later being the first Foreign Minister appointed by Nelson Mandela. His work took him to over 100 countries. He served as Ambassador, repectively to Portugal, Mexico and Romania and was bestowed the Order of Merit by all three these countries. He continues to take a keen interest in international political developments.
