Alex Steedman

April 17th 1979 remains a significant date in the Steedman household. It was the night the family home burned to the ground shortly before Glasgow’s Jim Watt lit Scotland’s own boxing torch by winning the WBC Lightweight crown. Eight-year-old Alex watched from the comfort of a neighbour’s living room and was hooked.

Although horseracing has proved his vocation, Alex is a presenter on TV’s Racing Uk and a regular on Betfair Radio, Boxing remains foremost in his sporting passions as well as his most serious punting pursuit. “I love my racing work but I never tire of devouring the latest Boxing DVD’s of unheralded boxers and foreign fighters. I remember seeing Mikkel Kessler early on and had all of that year’s tax money and more on him to beat Markus Beyer in 2006.”

Alex regards Sugar Ray Leonard as his favourite all time fighter (yes, he thinks he beat Hagler) and considers Miguel Cotto the most exciting of the current Champions. Make sure you log on for our preview of the next big fight.
