Germany's World Cup odds are drifting after it was confirmed that captain Michael Ballack will miss the tournament through injury.

The Chelsea midfielder sustained an ankle knock in his side's 1-0 victory against Portsmouth in Saturday's FA Cup final. Ballack is said to be angry about the challenge from Pompey's Kevin Prince-Boateng which forced him to leave the field in the first half. He underwent a scan this morning which showed ligament damage that will keep him out for eight weeks.

At 33-years-old, Ballack is unlikely to play in another World Cup. He was instrumental in their run to the semi-finals four years ago and for Jogi Low's preparations, it's a massive blow which may even throw open Group C, where Germany have come out to [2.0] in the Group Winner market.
