Betfair's World Cup mood-o-meter at Waterloo station
England World Cup winner joins Betfair to launch mood-o-meter as fans get their chance to say what they think will happen at South Africa 2010...
“With the World Cup a matter of days away supporters are putting their money where their mouths are and backing England to have a good tournament."
England World Cup winner Martin Peters today launched Betfair's national 'mood-o-meter' on a giant billboard at Waterloo Station, London.
The mood-o-meter tracks the betting on Betfair's World Cup markets to demonstrate how confident fans are that England will win the tournament, as Peters and his team-mates did in 1966. As Betfai, punters set the odds themselves, prices and betting statistics are a reflection of how the supporters themselves think England will get on in South Africa.
The barometer ranges from Game Over (fans think we have no chance) to It's Coming Home, where supporters believe a World Cup win is a nailed-on certainty. Peters unveiled the mood-o-meter at a relatively optimistic We Believe - highlighting the fact that punters make Fabio Capello's men fourth favourites at [8.6] to win the tournament.
The positioning of the needle will be changed every day throughout the World Cup, moving as the action unfolds in South Africa, and punters react in the betting markets.
Betfair's Andy Lulham said: "With the World Cup a matter of days away supporters are putting their money where their mouths are and backing England to have a good tournament. Hopefully the fans will feel the same after the team's first game against the USA on Saturday."
The display board is a larger-than-life version of one of the interactive widgets available at Betfair's World Cup site - www.betfairfootball.com - which showcases fan opinion and how supporters are betting this summer.
