French players refuse to train
Thought England were having a bad time in South Africa? The French prove that things can always get worse as players react to striker's expulsion...
"Anelka was sent home from the World Cup for verbally abusing Domenech during defeat to Mexico, a result which leaves the French [13.0] outsiders to qualify for the last 16."
The French camp is in turmoil after players refused to train in protest at Nicolas Anelka's expulsion from the squad.
Anelka was sent home from the World Cup for verbally abusing coach Raymond Domenech during the 2-0 defeat to Mexico, a result which leaves the French as [13.0] outsiders to qualify for the last 16.
Domenech read out a statement from his squad which said: "The French Football Federation did not at any time try to protect the group. To show our opposition to the decision taken [on Anelka], all the players decided not to take part in training."
The managing director of the French Football Federation subsequently quit and footage has also been seen of French captain Patrice Evra clashing with the team's fitness coach.
France, who reached the finals of the last World Cup and won the tournament 12 years ago, have only a point from their two games and are on the brink of going out. They play South Africa on Tuesday night, a match which they are [2.36] to win with the hosts at [3.45].
