Another gold for Canada?
Vince Shuley rounds up the latest batch of golds for Team Canada and rivals USA...
"Skipper Kevin Martin and his team are heading into tomorrow’s gold medal match undefeated. Norway has had two losses in 10 games. The wild red crowd at Vancouver Olympic Centre will give Martin the edge and cause the Norwegians to waiver."
Here they are again, eight years later. Canada and the USA battle for gold.
After a nailbiting last period in the semis, Canada narrowly avoided overtime with Slovakia by mere seconds. The Slovaks fought valiantly, coming back from 3-0 and scoring two goals in the final period. The last moments of the game were quite possibly Team Canada's most nervous in these games but goaltender Roberto Luongo held it together in the final minutes.
There was more gold harvest today, putting Canada in a position where they could finish with more gold medals than everyone else. It seems we all spoke to soon about their performance. The race for medals is over with the US dominating. The race for gold is just getting started.
The short track speed skaters had their redemption tonight on their home oval with Canadian Charles Hamelin managing to avoid the chaotic spill on the final corner and claim the gold. American Apolo Ohno made an aggressive passing move that took down both Canadian Francois-Louis Tremblay and Korean Sung Si-Bak. Ohno's move cost him the podium and left the America's most successful Winter Olympian disqualified.
The rest of Hamelin's teammates got their share by winning the 5000m men's relay. It will be Canada's most exciting weekend for a long time. With the lead in gold and a date with Team USA at Canada Hockey Place on Sunday, it could just be their time.
