Manuel Osborne Paradis is 18.5 to win gold in the Super G
Christine Nesbitt obliged yesterday for Vancouver-based writer Vince Shuley and now he's looking at a big outsider for a winning bet on day seven
Another beautiful day in British Columbia. The sun is out, the snow is fantastic and the Canadians won another gold medal. It doesn't get any better than this. Today I asked a shopper clad in a Canadian hockey jersey and red face paint how his day was going. He replied: "Ah you know, living the dream"
These three words pretty much sum up the atmosphere in Whistler right now. The rocky start is all but forgotten and the medal count for Canada seems to be slowly but surely climbing its way towards the superpower of Olympic sport, the USA. For the visitors and locals who are deciding that expensive tickets and crowded venues are not for them, the mountain playground of Whistler Blackcomb ski resort remains relatively quiet. In the 30 second lift lines I hear a dozen different languages being spoken and see the craziest team jackets. The lodge gets full around event time with folks gathering around the screens to watch the live coverage. After the gold medal is decided everyone heads back outside to enjoy the fruit of the Coast Mountains.
Christine Nesbitt brought home Canada's third gold medal in the 1000m speed skating. Many Canadians were happy to watch this event in replay, but no one missed the hockey. Team Canada defeated Switzerland in a penalty shoot out with Sidney Crosby making the deciding goal against Swiss goaltender Jonas Hiller. Canada's faceoff against the USA on Sunday will surely pack every bar in Whistler and Vancouver with so much at stake.
Best Bet: Men's Super G Gold Medal - Manuel Osborne Paradis (CAN) @ [18.5]
After a mediocre performance in the Downhill event, the Whistler native is looking for redemption on his own turf and doesn't want to disappoint the home crowd. 'Manny' as he is known in Whistler, is currently ranked seventh in the Super G World Cup standings.
