Lindsey Vonn Trapped? Changeable weather conditions might disrupt the women's downhill today.
Still on the rebound, Tobias Gourlay lays the favourite for the women's downhill.
Bet of the Day: Lay Lindsey Vonn at [2.14] to be Gold Medal Winner in Women’s Downhill
It's not Miller time just yet. There was no chance of a winning bet yesterday as the men's super combined was postponed because of heavy snow and rescheduled for Sunday. Only one Alpine skiing medal event has been raced so far - they should be four down by now - and the litany of meteorological problems at Vancouver 2010 includes: heavy snow; no snow; rain; fog; warm temperatures. Is it sleet that they're after? Drizzle? Mizzle? Whichever it is, the Milton Keynes Snow Dome can now make a strong case to be a Winter Olympics venue of the future.
There's some good stuff due to take place today, but it all comes with some short-priced favourites who are hard to oppose. Shaun White is the Tony Hawk of snowboarding (and indeed the new Tony Hawk of skateboarding) and will go off around [1.3] to win the men's halfpipe this evening. Short track might be the most exciting Winter Olympics event of all, but there's only one medal race today and Meng Wang of China will be close to [1.2] to claim gold.
All of which puts this column back out in the snow/rain/fog/warm. The women's downhill is scheduled for 1900 GMT today and Team USA's Lindsey Vonn is a firm favourite. But she's carrying a shin injury and, in the slightly cruel hope that the weather will turn against her in particular, she's worth opposing.
