Winter Olympics Betting: Brit Watch Day 10

Britwatch RSS / Dan Fitch / 22 February 2010 / Leave a comment

The women's curling team sweep up the remnants of another British sporting failure.

Unlike Bob Geldof, Dan 'The Betting Man' Fitch knows why he doesn't like Mondays - There's very little going on. He profiles the Brits who can be bothered, on the Winter Olympics' laziest day.

Today there are only four gold medals up for grabs. The only group of people who are going to be more inactive today than British office workers, are the overstaffed BBC team in Vancouver.

Let's face it. Very little work gets done on a Monday. If you're reading these words, then it's likely that you're one of the vast majority of office workers who spend the first day of the week doing little more than surfing the web. I just hope that you've got a spreadsheet ready and open, should your boss suddenly loom on the horizon.

Monday is a day when nothing more taxing gets achieved than a little spring-cleaning of the inbox. The Winter Olympics is no different. At a time when many television viewers are starting to get annoyed with the games occasionally pushing Eggheads out of its regular slot, it does itself no favours by dragging its feet like this.

Today there are only four gold medals up for grabs. The only group of people who are going to be more inactive today than British office workers, are the overstaffed BBC team in Vancouver.

One public service broadcaster not getting the day off is Steve Cram, who we all rely upon to make sense of the madness that is the sport of curling.

The women's team lost to Switzerland yesterday and have made it very difficult for themselves to qualify. They need to win their remaining two games and hope that others lose. Today they are in do-or-die action against Denmark and can be backed at [1.46].

It wasn't all failure in curling yesterday, as the men's team beat the USA and are the [1.35] favourites to beat Germany today. Don't let it go to a penalty shootout boys.

The final day of the ice dancing sees brother and sister duo John and Sinead Kerr, compete in the free dance. They are still in eighth position and can be backed at [100.0] to win gold. No blaming each other when it all goes wrong.

Finally, it's the men's team sprint in the cross country skiing, where youngsters Andrew Musgrave and Andrew Young will team up for Great Britain.

Let's hope they can remain strong, where so many British teenagers have fallen foul when doing cross country and resist the temptation to sneak off the course for a crafty fag.

A more bumper-packed Brit Watch will return tomorrow.
