Wade's hot form is putting the Heat on his rivals for the most valuable player award, could it be time to get on the Miami man?
The battle for who will be crowned most valuable player this season is now officially a three-horse race.
Throughout most of the season the discussion as to who will win the MVP award has been between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James but now Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat is being mentioned as a possible winner. Wade has catapulted himself in to contention by taking his game to a new level after the All Star Break.
Wade has already won an NBA title in 2006 when the Heat beat the Dallas Mavericks. In that great series he was voted MVP as he and Shaquille O'Neal led the Heat to victory 4-2. As previously reported Wade had a difficult time the following season mainly due the amount of endorsements he took on board, but he is back with vengeance now.
Wade became the greatest scorer in Miami's history last week when he notched up 9,459 points in just 380 career regular-season appearances. This 27-year-old superstar has propelled the Heat to fifth place in the Eastern Conference and are inches away from a play-off spot.
This guard is averaging almost 30 points per game but his perimeter shooting has become a lethal weapon. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that, without Wade, Miami would not have any chance of making the post-season.
Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers won the MVP last year and, in truth, I am still scratching my head about that decision. There is no question that he had a great season, but in my opinion LeBron clearly should have won the award. Bryant is playing in the deepest roster in basketball so if he is not shooting well the bench comes to the rescue.
Kobe is averaging a very respectable 27 points per game but unlike Wade and James he has a lot of help. In my opinion the Lakers would easily make the play-offs without Bryant and that is why I am keen to lay him at [4.4]. I am a huge admirer of Bryant but MVP should mean exactly that and I think this race is really between Wade and LeBron.
I am beginning to run out of superlatives for James as his Cleveland Cavaliers lead the Eastern Conference by 4.5 games. The 24-year-old averages just over 28 points per game but that does not tell the whole story - he has pretty much become the perfect player at the tender age of 24.
His perimeter shooting has improved beyond all recognition and his rebounding is of the highest calibre. James is also the man to go to in clutch situations and nobody in the league has displayed more character when the game is on the line.
James is clearly a deserving favourite to be MVP at [1.16] as without him Cleveland would not be leading the east by a wide margin. But if Wade continues to play at his current level this could be a very close call at the end of the season.
Currently Wade is trading at [4.0] on the exchange which is about right in my view. All in all I am delighted to see him finally fulfil his true potential and I look forward to seeing all three players do battle in the play-offs.
Recommended Wagers:
MVP, back Dwyane Wade at [4.0], lay Kobe Bryant at [4.4].
