Stunning Colorado run makes World Series dream a possibility
Only a month ago the Colorado Rockies needed to win their last two games just to force a playoff to decide the final place for the post-season foray. And guess what happened?
A 9-8 win over the Padres saw the men from Denver continue a quite remarkable run of 21 wins in 22 games to propel them into the end of season skirmishes, and boy how they have made their presence felt.
Just three weeks on and with the National League Title wrapped up in an efficient 4-0 series win against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Rockies find themselves in the World Series attempting to win the coveted title for the first time.
Standing in their way are the Boston Red Sox, who have kept alive hopes of a 2004 repeat by defying the odds to win the American League 4-3 having looked down-and-out at 3-1 on Friday.
So what of their chances? The Red Sox go into the Series on the back of seven wins and three losses while the Rockies are nine and one. There is no doubt both teams will be high on confidence and abundant with adrenaline; and make no mistake: this seven-game series will turn up more twists and turns than the Mississippi River.
This being so makes the event a must for any Betfair punter with swings-a-plenty par for the course over the nine days. The Rockies are 2.96 to win their first World Series while the boys from Boston are 1.48 to triumph for the second time in the four seasons.
The Sox undoubtedly have the experience and the talent to win but on the other hand the Rockies are on a remarkable run of form. At 2.96 the Rockies seem a great price.
The World Series starts on Wednesday 24th October
