Lots of excitement surrounds the opening meeting of the Flat season at Doncaster, but the supporting card from Kempton also has a fascinating look to it and it strikes as a more realistic target for Placepot purposes too.
"..on the basis that Elnawin, who won the Sirenia over course and distance in 2008, is the sole front-runner in a potentially muddling minor event, we’ve decided to bank on Richard Hannon’s four-year-old in the first."
2.20 - Lines need to be preserved for a little later on, so on the basis that Elnawin, who won the Sirenia over course and distance in 2008, is the sole front-runner in a potentially muddling minor event, we've decided to bank on Richard Hannon's four-year-old in the first.
2.50 - It's hard to envisage there being anything other than a fierce gallop in this given the quantity of horses who like to force the pace, so it might prove best to side with those who won't be involved in the early battle up front. King Olav, in line with his stable as a whole, could hardly be in any better form so he must be included, whilst things should pan out perfectly for Porgy and Dansili Dancer to arrive late.
3.25 - South Easter could prove a class apart in the Magnolia Stakes but he's anything but an ideal placepot horse so we're going to try to get him out of the two, with the tough Suits Me and the fast-improving December Draw both on side.
4.00 - Regardless of the Flat meeting nominated for today's selections there was always going to be a tricky newcomers race we'd have to scrape through and although this fourth leg provides a simpler task than the Brocklesby, theres still more than a little guesswork involved. When it comes to getting juveniles ready for their debut, Clive Brittain and Richard Hannon (particularly the latter) are two of the best in the business, so it's sensible to include both Takeaway and Jibouti. Of the remainder, Johnny Hancock's pedigree suggests he'll be better equipped than most to deal with the speed test.
4.35 - A number open to improvement in the three-year-old handicap, Midfielder is the one with the most potential in the race and he's joined by Areeda on his first try at a trip that should suit.
5.10 - If we get this far, there's every chance a sizeable payout will be on the cards, so playing it safe seems the best policy, especially given the fact it's hard to look beyond the thriving Love Delta and Yer Woman, the latter having twice shaped as if she's ahead of her mark.
