Clarkey can give a further boost to the in-form Christy Roche yard today at Wexford
Timeform's Billy Nash gives you four recommendations for racing in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day...
"Clarkey took advantage of a lenient mark to win a similar race at Limerick on Sunday and still looks well treated off a 6 lb higher mark. All of his best form is in blinkers and, if anything, this looks less competitive than the Limerick race."
Down Royal 2:35 - Place Lay - Hold Em Cowboy
Hold Em Cowboy has gone up a harsh looking 8 lb for winning at Fairyhouse last time and will need to improve again if he is to get in the shake up here. A winning pointer, he needed every yard of this trip last time and he could get taken off his feet on this much drier ground. There isn't much to choose between quite a few of these, so a place lay of Andrew Thorton's mount is advised.
Wexford 3:00 - Win Back - Vardas Partner
Vardas Partner was very disappointing at Navan last time but is worth another chance in what looks an ordinary contest. He split Rigour Back Bob and Flat Out in a bumper at Ballinrobe back in May and his fourth to Rite of Passage at Leopardstown reads very well in the context of this race. The better ground should suit Vardas Partner and he could be hard to peg back around here.
Down Royal 3:10 - Win Lay - Earth And Sky
Earth And Sky is nothing out of the ordinary and could struggle to land the odds in the 2m maiden chase. The race he finished third in at Clonmel last time wasn't a particularly strong one and the likes of Smack That and Rookery Rebel will give him plenty to think about here.
Wexford 5.10 - Win Back - Clarkey
Christy Roche's horses have really hit form of late and Clarkey may be able to give him another winner in the handicap chase. Clarkey took advantage of a lenient mark to win a similar race at Limerick on Sunday and still looks well treated off a 6 lb higher mark. All of his best form is in blinkers and, if anything, this looks less competitive than the Limerick race.
