Four handlers whose horses have been going well in January...

"The lull in jumping at the beginning of the year did little to stop Nicky Henderson...and you can safely bet that the stream of winners will continue in what is proving, even by his own high standards, a superb season for the Seven Barrows trainer."

Dan Buoy's second win of 2010, gained over hurdles at Southwell on Tuesday, extended the good run of form currently enjoyed by Richard Guest. Four of the former Grand National winning jockey's last sixteen runners have won, all at double figure prices, with five others picking up place money to boot. This constitutes the yard's best spell of form for several seasons, and with plenty of entries over the coming days, further success is a distinct possibility.

2009 was a pleasing period for North Yorkshire trainer Paul Midgley, who sent out a personal best forty-five winners over the course of the calendar year. At this early stage, 2010 looks set to see the good run continue. His all-weather team are in fine fettle, with three of his six runners in the last fortnight winning, the highlight a double at Southwell last Thursday.

Ian Williams also has his horses in decent nick, with Gifted Leader breaking his duck over hurdles in the style of a useful performer in the making. He was the most recent of Williams' five winners in the last two weeks. The rest came on the all-weather, and he has several entries in that sphere in the coming days, but with NH action now resuming in earnest it may be worthwhile keeping an eye on his jumpers as well.

The lull in jumping at the beginning of the year did little to stop Nicky Henderson from firing in the winners, as shown by the treble he racked up on the all-bumper card at Southwell last week. Wins followed at Kempton, where Mad Max made a successful debut over fences, Ffos Las and Fakenham and you can safely bet that the stream of winners will continue in what is proving, even by his own high standards, a superb season for the Seven Barrows trainer.
