Timeform have selected a race that caught the eye in the last week...
"With connections indicating that another quick reappearance may be on the cards, Vivani is one to keep on the right side of."
The Brampton "National Hunt" Novices' Handicap Hurdle run over two and a half miles at Huntington on Wednesday looks a race with the potential to throw up plenty of winners in the coming weeks. It was a competitive handicap for the grade, run at a sound pace, and the form seems sure to prove strong.
Vivarini, carrying a 7 lb penalty for his success at Fakenham earlier in the month, confirmed his status as a horse 'well in' off a mark of 89 as he raced clear from two out and went on to score in convincing fashion by five lengths. The testing conditions suited him dropping back in trip, and with connections indicating that another quick reappearance may be on the cards, Vivani is one to keep on the right side of.
Galoshes, with a new trainer on his return from a lengthy absence, travelled like a horse that was some way ahead of his mark for most of the race, going almost as well as the winner until blundering two out. He is very much one to look out for in similar contests.
Knight Woodsman was making his handicap bow and showed that he is very much at home in this sphere as he stayed on well to take third in the closing stages. A return to three miles should bring about more improvement in him and he should pick up a similar contest before too long.
Looking further down the field, Timon's Present having just her second start since switching to Nick Gifford, shaped a bit better than the result, jumping fluently and still in touch three out, having been ridden more prominently than the principles: Victory Surge, who went off a well-backed favourite showed all the signs of one who needs dropping back in trip and is still one to watch out-for in this company. In the longer term, Aztec Treasure looks the type to make his mark over the larger obstacles.
