Timeform select one to follow from the all-weather action at Kempton on Wednesday 27th January.
"In defeating smart chaser Fix The Rib (in turn finished seven lengths ahead of third) by five lengths, Cairnsmore produced a performance rarely witnessed in middle-distance maidens on the all-weather."
The spectators at the all-weather meeting at Kempton last Wednesday night witnessed a bit of history when Nickel Silver broke the five-furlong track record in the feature event, but may also have seen another performer capable of making the headlines over the next year. The horse in question is named Cairnsmore, formerly trained by Andre Fabre in France as a two-year-old, where he registered a runner-up finish behind 2009 Group 1 Prix de la Foret winner Varenar in a maiden at Compiegne on his final outing in 2008. The gelded son of Singspiel had presumably had his problems before switching to the Mark Johnston stable, though he had clearly impressed his current handler, coming in for sustained market support and sent off at 7/4 on for a thirteen-furlong maiden. In defeating smart chaser Fix The Rib (in turn finished seven lengths ahead of third) by five lengths, Cairnsmore produced a performance rarely witnessed in middle-distance maidens on the all-weather, cruising clear in the straight and value for further still, his performance supported by a highly respectable time. The four-year-old looks the type to keep on improving through the year, this just his third start, and he will be well worth watching wherever he turns up, potentially listed class at least.
