Can the Jury 'do a Dennis Taylor' this month?
Timeform's Dan Barber recaps a frustrating February thus far for the Timeform Jury team and faces up to the prospect of just its fourth losing month since its inception.
"In addition, last week was actually a profitable one, thanks to Preuty Boy, Miami Gator and Vintage."
Why does February have to be the shortest month? In truth, subscribers might be relieved to see the back of it, after an undeniably disappointing spell for the service, but we certainly haven't given up hope of a rousing return into the black and there's a feeling amongst the team that we haven't been too far away, anyway, scant consolation though that seems for our followers.
Twenty-one of the twenty-nine selections so far this month have beaten the market, in other words returned at shorter odds than those at which they were recommended, and one of those that didn't was, funnily enough, a winner, something that's always deemed a bonus in Timeform House in these days of incredibly efficient Betfair close-to-race markets. In addition, last week was actually a profitable one, thanks to Preuty Boy, Miami Gator and Vintage.
It's not as if the Jury hasn't shown their mettle by fighting back from the abyss before, either, with January for instance touching a high of [6.2] in-running in the hypothetical 'Will the Jury record a profit this month?' market. Finish strongly we did, though, culminating with a healthy profit, capped by Arctic Magic at Cheltenham, but a comeback in February, with three days less to play with, would rank close behind Nick Faldo's (1996 Masters), Lasse Viren's (10,000m at '72 Olympics) and Dennis Taylor's (1985 World Snooker Final).
Still, we'll give it 110%, take each day as it comes and (insert other footballing cliche of choice), and, who knows, maybe we'll emulate the last-named by upturning our spectacles, sinking to our knees and waving a defiant finger at any doubters. Class is apparently permanent, after all, as we hope fourteen winning months out of seventeen so far shows.

Glad to see the back of February. Only 5 winners but a few near misses. Particularly galling to see Trenchant winning the big race at Fontwell (couldn't get placed when an each way selection earlier in the Month!). However, I remain upbeat and have every confidence in the team at Timeform. Looking forward to March and the Festival. As the song says, "Things can only get better". Good luck to all subscribers and to all at Timeform.

Many thanks Paul. As the article suggests, 'form is temporary and class is permanent', and the boys on the jury are confident they can get back on track before Cheltenham.
