Snow ploughs, like the Jury, keeps going whatever the weather
The Jury, the Timeform tipping service, is a team which utilises the skill and experience of Timeform experts in specific areas of racing, responsible for seeking out outstanding betting opportunities. All the action comes under its scrutiny, be it turf or all-weather, Flat or jumps, in Britain or in Ireland.
"After putting in so much collective time and effort studying races and devising tissues, nothing unsettles us Jurists quite like a market drift."
In the Second World War, Germany rained explosive death onto Britain and people went about their business. Six decades on, and the whole of the country grinds to a halt due to the seasonal weather. Okay, so the frost and snow has been unusually harsh and prolonged this winter, but how many times can the lead story on any and every news channel comprise of a reporter in a ski jacket stood on a bridge overlooking a white-coated M62 telling us to run for our lives because it's still snowing and the grit (or salt as it seems to be called now) is running out.
Sport has been affected, to the extent that darts - and division two darts at that, not even Phil Taylor's tournament - has become the mainstay of a day's action. Thank God for Southwell. While the other all-weather courses have failed to 'do what it says on the tin' in recent days, Southwell has kept racing alive.
The Jury weighed in with two selections there on Tuesday, RUSSIAN MUSIC and KNIGHTFIRE. After putting in so much collective time and effort studying races and devising tissues, nothing unsettles us Jurists quite like a market drift. Available at around 5 on Betfair when sent out at 11am, Russian Music was disconcertingly trading in excess of 9 near the off, and it's fair to say that, whatever the reason, when they drift like that they rarely win, and yet he did, comfortably so. Knightfire, on the other hand, was strong in the betting, but he was short headed, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and his will to win is now in question.
That frustrating second followed on from frustrating seconds on Thursday (POWER SHARED) and Saturday (ONCEAPONATIME), the only bets on those days, but the one on Sunday, two points on TIDDLIWINKS, duly improved and won as we expected, looking a sprinter to follow.
Therefore, a profitable week for the Jury since the last update, but it was nearly so much more, considering we had three seconds alongside the two winners among the five selections. Britain might be in the grip of 'the big freeze' but the Jury keeps on rolling; you be the judge.
