Having correctly predicted a safe passage by the Williams sisters into the final of the women's draw yesterday, Ben thinks Federer should have too much for the moody Russian today but there's a market worth supporting Safin on...
Yesterday's bet on the Williams sisters reaching the final came in with both ladies winning in straight sets - Serena beating Jie Zheng and Venus beating Elena Dementieva.
Today we see the start of the men's semi finals and another inevitable final awaiting between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Federer plays the very talented but prone-to-imploding Marat Safin, whilst Nadal meets the unexpected German Rainer Schuettler who has so far scraped his way into the semis after a five set five hour epic against Arnaud Clement.
Roger Federer v Marat Safin - Roger has a 9-2 head to head in his favor against the Russian and beat him at last year's Wimbledon in the third round 6-1 6-4 7-6. The last time Safin got over Roger was in the semi final of the Australian Open in 2005 at a time many people believe was the peak of his career. An interesting stat is that 8 of the 11 matches they have played against each other have had at least one tie break and the majority of sets they have played have been very close.
Selection: Back Safin +6.5 Handicap @ 2.1 Medium Bet
Back there to be a tie break @ 1.8 Medium Bet
Good luck
Ben
