After a successful first day's betting from SW19, Ben Caudell goes in search of more Wimbledon winners...
What a great start to the tournament with three out of four correct tips, I only hope that people managed to back my selections. Yesterday's picks were Fernando Verdasco, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Fed under 28.5 games and Llodra, who unfortunately but predictably retired from his match with Ancic due to an ongoing injury. I did warn about that injury though!
Today's tips will hopefully follow on from Mondays fruitful picks...
Jurgen Melzer v Ivan Ljubicic: Melzer has always been a keen net approacher and should be more suited to the grass courts of Wimbledon than his form suggests. The same could be said about Ljubicic, however the Croatian's large back swing on both sides and his inability to get down low to shots can some times put him at a disadvantage. Melzer beat Ljubo at Wimbledon in 2005 in straight sets and possesses the lefty slice out wide serve.
Selection: Medium bet Melzer @ [2.75]
Jeremy Chardy v Frederico Gil: I have seen Gill play a few times this year on clay and his game is definitely suited to the red stuff, he's a baseliner who very rarely approaches the net and hasn't got the big shot in his armory, Chardy on the other hand has a big serve and the ground strokes to match off both wings and in my opinion he will dominate from the first ball. Chardy also beat Gill convincingly three weeks ago at the French Open. Won Junior Wimbledon in 2005
Selection: Large bet Chardy @ [1.5].
Benjamin Becker v Nikolay Davydenko: Davydenko is rumoured to have said that he wants to lose in the first round at Wimbledon and get the hell out of there as quickly as possible. It's true that he hates the grass and I can't see him being motivated enough to see this one through in straight sets.
Selection: Big bet to lay Davydenko 3-0 in the set betting market @ [2.6].
