Andy Murray proved the doubters wrong when coming from two sets down to beat Richard Gasquet in a Wimbledon classic last night - but those who kept faith with the Scot were rewarded with an amazing [75.0] winner on Betfair.

One Betfair punter had £11 on Murray at those amazing odds when Gasquet was serving for the match at 5-4 in the third set, but there was plenty more money placed on the Scot at huge prices - indeed, just shy of £2,000 was matched on him at odds of [50.0] and greater to win the match.

At this stage, he also drifted to [500.00] on Betfair to win Wimbledon.

And he did them proud in winning a five-setter that had not only his betting supporters, but also the Wimbledon crowd, in raptures.

Less happy will be the punters who backed Gasquet at the minimum odds of [1.01] on Betfair, though. There was over £23,000 matched at that price, with a colossal £890,319 traded at [1.02].

However, for every loser there is a winner on a betting exchange, and those who laid Gasquet at odds of [1.01] and [1.02] effectively backed [100.0] and [50.0] winners.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "There are those who thought that if Murray was a racehorse, then he didn't stay the final furlong. But it was his opponent who failed to see out the distance tonight.

"In fact, if he was a motor car then you could say that he blew a gasket with the chequered flag in sight."

Meanwhile, Andy Murray says that last night's five-set victory was the best match he has ever played in. Here an interview with him here
