Fish can make it past the fourth round this time
"Having lost to world no.1 Novak Djokovic in the fourth round of last year’s US Open, Fish will not want to go out at the same stage with a potential quarter-final appearance against Roger Federer a big motivating factor."
Mardy Fish is in the form of his life and can reward at odds-against tonight, says Ben Caudell
Five Reasons to Back
Mardy Fish to defeat Jo Wilfried Tsonga @ [2.16]
Tonight's match between these two in-form top-ten players has all the makings of a real humdinger. This will be the first meeting between the pair, however all the stats favour an upset with Fish making it through to the quarter-finals.
• Mardy Fish comes into tonight's game with home advantage against the explosive Tsonga, having previously won 76% of his last 50 matches in the United States and ten of his last 11 at the US Open.
• Fish is in the best form of his life and will be buoyed by his preparations coming into the second week at Flushing Meadows, the 29-year-old has reached three finals (Atlanta, Los Angeles, Montreal) and one semi-final (Cincinnati) since Wimbledon. Mardy has one tournament win to his name this year and that was in Atlanta where he triumphed over fellow compatriot John Isner in three sets.
• Reaching a career high of no.7 in the world rankings two weeks ago (currently ranked at no.8) Mardy boasts a superior ranking, surface rating and match rating (Match Ratings assess form specific to the current tournament conditions and the opposing player; Match Ratings also takes head-to-heads into account).
• Fish has a winning record of 60% of his last ten matches played against top-20 ranked players on hard and in the United States, he has won eight of his last nine against big servers and 77% of all matches played on the hard courts this year, Tsonga has won 68%.
• Having lost to world no.1 Novak Djokovic in the fourth round of last year's US Open, Fish will not want to go out at the same stage with a potential quarter-final appearance against Roger Federer a big motivating factor. Fish will also take confidence by his tournament stats where he leads Tsonga in break points won, second serve points won, and first serve returns.
2-0 Lay of the day - Lay Caroline Wozniacki 2-0 v Svetlana Kuznetsova @ [1.88]
• Big-hitting Kuznetsova has two wins against the world No.1, defeating the Danish youngster at Indian Wells in 2008 and in Miami 2009.
• The Russian took a set off Wozniacki at the 2009 US Open eventually losing in a third set tie-break 2-6 7-6 7-6.
• Kuznetsova has a great record in New York winning 81% of her last 50 matches in the Big Apple, includes lifting the trophy in 2004 and reaching the final in 2007.
