• Former world number and Multiple Grand Slam winner Roger Federer can upset the odds once again this evening as he did in Paris earlier in the year where he defeated the Serbian at this same stage of the of the French Open 7-6 6-3 3-6 7-6. Although this was only the Joker's second loss all year - the other was a retirement in the second set against Andy Murray in Cincinnati - the Swiss master will be confident in the knowledge that he owns an overall head-to-head series lead of 14-9.

• No player in the modern era holds a better record at the US Open than Roger Federer. The 30-year-old won five consecutive titles in a row at Flushing Meadows from 2004 through to 2008 and also reached the final in 2009 where he lost to Juan Martin Del Potro. This equates to a win record of 96% from his last 50 matches in New York.

• From the 23 meetings between the two players, Federer has eight wins and seven losses against Djokovic on hard-courts, five wins and three losses in Grand Slams and three wins and one loss at the US Open.

• Although it's very hard to find any statistical faults with Novak's year so far, the Serbian did look slightly fatigued when he won through 7-6 6-7 6-0 3-0 against Janko Tipsarevic. Federer on the other hand has yet to be tested at this year's Open highlighted by his scintillating wins over Jo Wilfried Tsonga and Juan Monaco where he conceded just 13 games in total.

• With 16 Grand Slam titles to his name, it's not surprising to see Federer come into this evening's match with superior tournament statistics. The Fed Express has recorded better stats than his opponent for, most aces hit, first serve percentage, first serve points won, second serve points won, first serve returns, and second serve returns. The only stat where Djokovic has the better record is on break points won.

2-0 Lay of the day - lay Serena Williams 2-0 v Caroline Wozniacki @ [1.72]

• While Wozniacki is constantly criticised for topping the rankings without ever having won a Grand Slam title, the 21-year-old Dane cannot be condemned for her efforts at the US Open where she has reached a semi-final and final in the past two years.

• Discounting the match in Donha in 2009 when Caroline retired against Serena, the only other match between these two went to a third set tie-break which the American won that same year.

• Wozniacki's game is suited to disarming the overwhelming power that Williams posses. She will focus her efforts on trying to move the American around the court as much as possible, relying on unforced errors from her opponent rather than hitting winners herself. She will also be confident in her form, having won her last nine matches in a row in America and eight in a row against big servers.
