America has a new tennis starlet and Ben Caudell is backing her for more glory at the US Open

Already an inspiration to many aspiring young American tennis teens, 18-year-old rising star Melanie Oudin has already been called the next Tracy Austin.

Austin has gone on record saying that Oudin reminds her of her younger self, the same big heart, fighting spirit, and mental toughness. The mental strength that Oudin has shown at this year's US Open has been nothing short of remarkable. She has come from a set down three times out of her last four matches and against truly outstanding opposition in Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova, and Nadia Petrova. All four matches she has played and won have been against Russians, tonight she faces a different challenge, a player from Denmark who, like her is young, athletic and super talented.

Caroline Wozniacki, like Oudin, has immense composure in tight situations, both players were in huge danger of going out in straight sets in their fourth round matches but instead held it together to fight back and defeat their opponents in three sets.

Wozniacki, for the most part was outplayed by Svetlana Kuznetsova, it looked like the Dane was going to be blown off the court by the Russian's power play from the word go, but instead didn't panic and bided her time before the inevitable happened and Kuznetsova started to hit timely unforced errors when it really mattered.

I believe we should be backing the American today. She has the whole of the United States tuning in to watch tonight's match, she handles pressure very well and is one of the quickest movers around the court.

Wozniacki, similar to Andy Murray in the men's, absorbs the pressure from usually bigger hitters very rarely going for big shots themselves. She hits few unforced errors and it is usually her opponents who can't handle her consistency. Oudin represents a different kettle of fish, not only does she have the confidence to win matches every time she steps on court, she also posses a good tactical brain that may take a little time to warm-up but when in full flow can conjure up the game to overcome any top ranked player in the world. Move over Tracy Austin, we have a new starlet in town...
