Perfecseun with his pick of today's action from Flushing Meadows

S. Bammer (Austria) vs E. Dementieva (Russia)

I regret not picking out Tamara Paszek yesterday to beat Schiavone even though she was one of my best bets of the day. Paszek has been playing well at Grand Slams this year and that run continues as she makes the third round of the US Open at the first time of asking. Another Austrian goes on court today and she does have a very healthy chance of an upset.

Not a lot of attention is paid to Austrian tennis, not since the likes of Thomas Muster and Barbara Schett. The new generation of Austrians are here and playing well and the old ones seem to have found some good form. Sybille Bammer came back on tour after having a child and that seemed to be the key to catapult her career. She is now ranked 20 in the world.

Bammer takes on Dementieva for the first time since 1998 when both players were ranked in 3 digits, Dementieva 285 and Bammer at 400. It is safe to say we can strike out that encounter in this analysis. The Dementieva serve is the key to anyone beating her as she gives up a lot of 2nd serves for her opponents to really have a go at. Even though she cleared Cohen-Aloro in her opener, she was tested and that gives hope to the Austrian.

It is not all gloom for Dementieva though, she has been playing well at the US Open series. She made the semis at San Diego and New Haven, lost in the first round Toronto to Schiavone ranked 26 and fell at the quarterfinal stage in New Haven. Bammer is very much a threat and has the mental strength to match Dementieva who substitutes her weakness with dogged determination.

Suggested Bet: Lay Dementiva to win 2-0 @ 2.22 and Lay Dementieva win @ 1.46
