Serena Williams has confirmed that she will play for the United States in this year's Fed Cup, which will be her first appearance in the event since 2003.
The Australian Open winner has been hampered by injuries in recent years, but her return to the team event will be a major plus to the Americans as they look to win the Fed Cup for the first time since 2000.
Serena, who will team up with sister Venus in the US side, has an unbeaten record in the Fed Cup - winning three singles rubbers and three doubles victories.
Speaking about the news, US captain Zina Garrison admitted: "I was very happy when Serena called me and said she wanted to play, especially coming after her big win in Australia.
"I'm excited to see them both back on court and defying all the odds of what people think or say about them."
The American team open their campaign with a first-round tie against Belgium in Florida in April and markets will be available on Betfair closer to the time.
