Tim Henman will face Jan Hernych of the Czech Republic in the first round of the Indian Wells Masters Series.
The British number two has never played Hernych, who is ranked 29 places lower than him at 73, and will be hoping to build on his Las Vegas Open experience - that was only his second tournament since October following his comeback from a knee injury.
Elsewhere, British number one Andy Murray has been given a bye in the first round.
Unstoppable Swiss star Roger Federer heads to California as top seed and favourite, with Guillermo Vilas' all-time record of 46 successive victories firmly in his sights.
Federer will also be joined in Indian Wells by a host of tennis stars from the world's top 10, including Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick.
The world number one has a bye in the first round and will equal John McEnroe's record of 42 successive victories if he wins in the second round, and two matches later he could equal Ivan Lendl's run of 44.
