Majid Haq has joked that Scotland beating Australia would be on a par with 'the Faroes beating Brazil at football'.
Peter Drinnen's men, the new top ranked one-day side in world cricket, have also been pitted against South Africa and Netherlands in Group A when the tournament gets underway on March 13.
"For us to beat Australia would be like the Faroes beating Brazil at football," Haq joked on BBC Sport.
"In fact it might even be bigger than that - more like us beating Brazil when Berti Vogts was in charge."
Scotland are, unsurprisingly, the rank outsiders to cause any kind of upset in the Caribbean.
Dinning feels Scotland must start strongly to give any of the other competing nations a game.
"If we can take early wickets, which I'm sure we can with the way we've been bowling, we might set a few nerves jangling and cause the likes of Australia and South Africa a few problems," he said.
"Teams are going out and giving it the gun really early in their innings and setting targets of 300, but you run the risk of losing early wickets.
"In the one-day game anything can happen and if we get it together we are going to be very dangerous - even against Australia. We have a game plan and hopefully we can stick to it."
They are trading at 110 along with Holland to emerge from Group A as winners, with Australia the favourites at 1.71 and South Africa on offer at 2.28.
The more adventurous backers can find Scotland on offer at 1000 to do the unthinkable and win cricket's showpiece event.
