is out of the Monte Carlo Masters after a surprise defeat to Sweden's Robin Soderling.
The Russian ace, who was seeded third for the Masters event, looked completely out of touch against his unseeded opponent and was defeated in three sets.
Davydenko saved four match points before eventually going down 6-4 6-7 6-3 to Soderling - who is currently ranked 28th in the world.
World number four Davydenko will be concerned by his display in his first clay court event of the season, as he prepares for next month's French Open.
The 25-year-old, a semi-finalist at Roland Garros in 2005, is seen by Betfair punters as an outsider for the second Grand Slam of the year.
Having traded at 44, Davydenko has drifted to 80 in the betting for the French Open - which is due to get underway on May 27.
