Roddick out of Clay Court event

Andy Roddick has pulled out of the US Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston, Texas, because of a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

The top seed and home favourite aggravated the problem, which originally forced Roddick out of the Miami Masters, in the Davis Cup against Fernando Verdasco although he went on to win that match.

Roddick has insisted that rest is the only cure and has given no indication as to when he will return.
"The unfortunate thing with a hamstring injury is that it is one of the most susceptible to re-injure," he said.
"At this point, instead of changing surfaces - you know how natural my movement is on clay in the first place - it would probably be best to make sure I get healthy."

Last year's beaten semi-finalist, Tommy Haas, has emerged as the 3 favourite to win the event in the United States, although the 2006 winner, Mardy Fish, who will play Martin Vassallo Arquello in the first round, is available at 14 to triumph again.
