is through to the third round of the Barcelona Open with a straight sets victory over compatriot Feliciano Lopez.
The third seed needed just 69 minutes to advance 6-3 6-3 and set up a clash with either Agustin Calleri of Argentina or Italian qualifier Paolo Lorenzi in the last 16.
Robredo won the tournament back in 2004 but will have to get past champion Rafael Nadal if he wants to add to that tally this time around.
Elsewhere Gaston Gaudio's poor run of form continued as he was dumped out of the tournament by Robin Soderling at the first-round stage.
The Swede, who now faces fellow Swede Thomas Johansson in the second round, dropped just one game for a 6-1 6-0 victory and former French Open champion Gaudio was at a loss to explain what has gone wrong.
"I don't know where my game has gone, I just can't seem to play at the top level any more," he said.
Nadal faces Kristof Vliegen in the second round after securing a bye in round one and he is, not surprisingly, the 1.34 favourite to win the tournament, with Robredo on offer at 22.
Guillermo Canas is available at 16.5 with David Ferrer trading at 34 and Nikolay Davydenko on offer at 60.
