Nalbandian, Koubek and Radwanska are some of today's good picks
Perfecseun makes his "best of the rest" picks from the tennis action going on around the globe
4 times in 2006, Wawrinka and Nalbandian met and the result was a 2-2 draw. The number 2 ranked Swiss player had a great run at the US Open, as did Nalbandian. This is the first real test for both players since the Grand Slam, with the exception of Wawrinka's loss in Metz last week to Tsonga. This looks like a 3-setter but the call is Nalbandian.
Stefan Koubek is on the watch list for this week and should be followed to beat Felicano Lopez. He has already seen off a Spanish player this week in Carlos Moya and with home support can send Lopez packing. Their last meeting in 2006 went the way of the Austrian but Lopez has won both of their previous encounters in Austria. Koubek is on a good run and can claim a win on home soil today.
The last time Chela played in a tennis competition, he looked exhausted. He had been playing competitive tennis since mid July and had good runs in tournaments most of this year. It all caught up with him in the quarter-finals of the US Open. Whether he has had enough rest is the main question but Melzer, benefiting from local bias can overcome Chela to progress to the last eight.
Rehnquist, the young Swede is playing well and looks set to spearhead the next generation of Swedish players. Ancic is coming back from an injury lay off and has a lot of work to be done even if previous performances suggests that he is the much better player. Rehquist has the tools to secure one set and perhaps a win.
In the women's game, Agneiska Radwanska is one of the players in form who can spoil the home party for the emotional Zvonareva. The young Pole is maturing week to week and taking her game to the top level with every stroke. And, Dinara Safina can add to the woes of Anna Chakvetadze who seems to be in a slump at the moment after a brilliant year. Safina is playing better these days and can come out the victor over her fellow Russian.
