Defending champion Nadia Petrova is through to the quarter-finals of the Bausch & Lomb Championships, where she has been joined by Venus Williams.

Top seed Petrova cruised past China's Zheng Jie 6-2 6-3 in their third round encounter to set up a last eight meeting with fellow Russian Dinara Safina.

Having beaten Safina two weeks ago at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Petrova said: "She's a tough opponent but I've had two straight, two-set matches that I won and I'm very confident."

Meanwhile, Williams eased past compatriot Meilen Tu in straight sets, 6-2 7-5, and will now face France's Tatiana Golovin - who beat Samantha Stosur 6-2 6-1.

The other quarter-finals see second seed Jelena Jankovic and sixth seed Ana Ivanovic, while third seed Daniela Hantuchova will take on Sybille Bammer.

Petrova is the 3.2 favourite to claim the title again, with Williams next best at 3.7. Jankovic is trading at 5.8 while Hantuchova can be backed at 10.
