Philipp Kohlschreiber completed a sensational week in Munich by winning the BMW Open with a comeback win over Mikhail Youzhny.

The German crowd favourite from Augsburg won his first ATP tour title by converting his fourth match point in the final set.

Kohlschreiber got off to a good start with an early break of Youzhny's serve but the Russian third seed hit back with three breaks of his own to claim the first set 6-2.

But the 23-year-old German responded to the support of the partisan home crowd to mount a stirring comeback and take the second set 6-3.

He saved a break point in his first service game in the third set and the escape gave him a further shot of confidence.

Kohlschreiber broke his opponent in game five, producing a fine, deep volley to set up two break points and taking the first when Youzhny's poor attempt at a drop shot sailed into the net.

He missed three match points when serving for the title at 5-4, as Youzhny sent two brutal crosscourt drives back past him before forcing an error on the German's backhand.

Kohlschreiber became the first German to win the Munich Open since Michael Stich in 1994 when Youzhny hit a backhand slice out at the fourth match point.

Youzhny next moves to Rome for the Masters tournament in preparation for the season's major tournament on clay - the French Open.

The Russian is available at 150 to win the men's title at Roland Garros while Kohlschreiber is currently at 200, behind long-time favourite Rafael Nadal at 1.8.
