Round 1 Preview
J. Isner (USA) vs B. Becker (Germany)
This first round match was postponed from yesterday and rightly so as this will be a long match. Isner is the latest sensation to hit tennis and he will be hoping to carry on in the same vein as the form that took him to the finals of Washington in late July.
Much has been said about the American and his story is not new to anyone that follows tennis or bets on it. At 6ft 9ins, he is known for incessantly serving aces and that sees him through most matches but last week he was unable to serve out David Ferrer at the first hurdle of the Cincinnati Masters. This time round, he faces Benjamin Becker, a player he defeated in 3 sets en-route to the finals in Washington.
Becker has lost the form that took him to number as high as number 38 in the world in March 2007. He does love the hard court and it was during the US Open last year that he made a name for himself by beating Andre Agassi. Since then, he has not done anything else of note and he has generally not gone past the first round of the last 5 tournaments he entered.
Should Becker find his form again today, it will still be hard for him to break down Isner who can easily snuff out break points with his aces. The American serves an average of 25 aces per match and this has been as high as 31 during his match against Odesnik in Washington. Isner can break as well, that is no problem for the tall man from North Carolina who broke the likes of Henman, Haas and Monfils with a degree of ease when it came to tie breakers.
Suggested Bet: Lay Benjamin Becker to win 2-0 sets @ 4.5 and small stakes Back John Isner to win @ 1.71
