French Open Betting Men's Final: Soderling's incredible run to end in disappointment

Ben Caudell is full of praise for the Swede's outstanding effort in reaching his first Grand Slam final but predicts Roger Federer will have just a little too much in the tank for the big-serving outsider.

Yesterday's women's final saw Svetlana Kuznetsova overcome fellow compatriot and world number one Dinara Safina in a match that lacked exhilaration and excitement. Kuznetsova had been the only stain in Safina's 20-1 winning streak since her April 20th rise to the number one spot in the Rankings.

Yesterday, Kuznetsova repeated her Rome victory over Safina, albeit, on a much larger stage, in a very one sided match that failed to lift off. She was never really tested throughout the course of the match, Safina's nerves got the better of her serve, time and time again hitting double faults at important stages in the match, including match point. The 6-4 6-2 scoreline was a refreshing change for Kuznetsova who in previous rounds had to battle through tough opposition to come back and eventually win in three gruelling sets.

Roger Federer (SWI) v Robin Soderling (SWE) - Today's French Open final in the men's draw has all the makings of another classic with both players closing in on their ultimate goals. Federer will become the sixth man to win all four Grand Slam titles in his career, the first since Andre Agassi in 1999, and Robin Soderling will be gunning for his first ever major title having never been past the third round at Grand Slam events.

I am finding it extremely hard to find any reasons to suggest that Robin Soderling may win this match. Everything suggests that Roger Federer will close in on history and win his 14th Grand Slam in his 40th career slam tournament. The Swiss master is a total perfectionist when competing at this level.

During Federer's illustrious career he has managed to record a run of 20 consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals or better over the past five years and has accumulated a 126-8 match record, losing only to three different players - Rafael Nadal (six times), Novak Djokovic (once) and Marat Safin (once). One of the most incredible stats I have ever come across is highlighted by the fact that Federer has amazingly never lost to a player ranked outside the top 5 during that span, he is 111 - 0 !!!!!

With everything favouring a Swiss win today and the fact that Roger Federer is attempting to beat Soderling for the 10th time in as many meetings, surely there can't be another upset to rival that of Nadal's loss to the Swede in round 16, the biggest upset in modern day history at the French Open......

Selection: Back Roger Federer @ [1.3] to win match
Back Federer 3-1 @ [3.6] (small bet)
Back the Tie-break @ [1.86]
