Italy begin the defence of their Fed Cup title against China on Saturday, with Tathiana Garbin leading their 2007 challenge.
The world number 23 will face Tian-Tian Sun, ranked 91st in the world, in the opening rubber of the clash in Castellaneta Marina.
The holders have then picked Flavia Pennetta, 46th in the world rankings, to face Shuai Peng in the second singles rubber.
Italy are favourites to begin the defence of their title with a victory, with the home side trading at 1.31 and China available at 2.4.
The winners of the Italy v China contest will face either France or Japan in the semi-finals.
The French will lead off with Nathalie Dechy taking on Ai Sugiyama in Limoges, before world number 18 Tatiana Golovin faces Akiko Morigami.
