The semi-finals of the Davis Cup will offer plenty of betting opportunities for tennis punters late in September.

Defending champions Russia will face Germany and Sweden take on USA in the last four encounters from September 21 to 23.

Russia and Germany will meet for the ninth time in Davis Cup history, when they go head-to-head in Moscow's Olympic Stadium. Punters eyeing a bet should take note that Russia have won five of the previous encounters.

With four players ranked in the world's top 25, Russia are likely to be favoured in the semi-final betting markets to reach their fifth Davis Cup final as they attempt to claim their third title.

The clay surface in Moscow is likely to favour the home side, although the visitors could be decent odds to cause an upset. Russia have been pushed all the way by Chile and France in the earlier rounds, while those having a bet on Germany will have been impressed by their first-round win over a strong Croatian side.

The other Davis Cup semi-final encounter for betting customers to consider is Sweden against USA in Gothenburg - the 12th meeting between the two sides.

America have an 8-3 winning record and won the last encounter between the countries in the 2004 World Cup quarter-finals. Patrick McEnroe's side are expected to top the odds to win their 32nd title, having heavily defeated the Czech Republic and Spain en-route to the semis.

Despite being on home carpet, Sweden could been seen as outside bet to progress having beaten a strong Argentina team in the last round. Jonas Bjorkman's quality in both the singles and doubles could prove a big factor for those getting involved in match betting.

The winners of the two semi-finals will meet in the Davis Cup final later this year (November 30 - December 2), which will offer yet more betting opportunities for Betfair customers.
